As the summer winds down the team at asiGuardian has been reflecting on what's the lesson learned so far this year or the most salient points of the industry.
Two things come to mind. Most businesses lump backup and disaster recovery into the same solution. While they are related, they are NOT the same solution and plan. Second, most businesses aren't being diligent in looking at their offsite solutions retention capabilities for ARCHIVE of their backup.
When choosing a backup or DR plan/solution consult with someone who's had an outage of some kind and had to actually restore the tools you use. Experience and wisdom are not something that is easily substituted.
When choosing an OFFSITE backup provider be sure to ask them IF they even support the capability to retain multiple backups beyond the last backup of your data. If you can only go back one day and the data was corrupted yesterday, well, then that's not really backup is it. It's just an offsite copy of your existing problem. Think about it...

Great article! There are even more options to consider, especially for smaller companies. For example, you could connect your office to your home office using BackupChain or you could sign up for a cloud plan. Some people use NAS devices, such as Synology, or FTP backups to get their data offsite.
