IE 9 Coming on Monday

This week Microsoft timed the release of Internet Explorer 9 to occur during the South by Southwest tech gathering in Texas that starts this weekend. IE 9's main advantage is support for HTML 5 which is a new standard for programmers and designers to cre...ate more robust user experiences graphically without tools like Flash and other "plug-ins".IE 9 will only be deployed for Window's Vista and Window's 7 computers. There is no planned support for Windows XP. Probably because XP itself has a final end of support date of August 2014.Because of the Javascript engines in the 32 bit version being newer than released in the 64 bit version the 32 bit version appears to be faster even on 64 bit versions of Windows until the Chakra Javascript engine is updated. The 32 bit version is benchmarking faster than Chrome or Firefox current releases based on the anecdotal data in the market.Get ready.. it's coming Monday.

Off-site Backup

It's surprising to see business owners who have never considered the impact of their business burning to the ground and realizing the devastation ensuing if their data was lost. Especially in knowledge based businesses where tooling can be re-ordered and replaced by insurance companies, but intellectual property can not.

Offsite Backup

As the summer winds down the team at asiGuardian has been reflecting on what's the lesson learned so far this year or the most salient points of the industry.

Two things come to mind. Most businesses lump backup and disaster recovery into the same solution. While they are related, they are NOT the same solution and plan. Second, most businesses aren't being diligent in looking at their offsite solutions retention capabilities for ARCHIVE of their backup.

When choosing a backup or DR plan/solution consult with someone who's had an outage of some kind and had to actually restore the tools you use. Experience and wisdom are not something that is easily substituted.

When choosing an OFFSITE backup provider be sure to ask them IF they even support the capability to retain multiple backups beyond the last backup of your data. If you can only go back one day and the data was corrupted yesterday, well, then that's not really backup is it. It's just an offsite copy of your existing problem. Think about it...
